These are good questions. And we are always delighted when someone asks them. Because the answers tell a long journey – from Brazil to Germany, from a small passion to a real business, and from the deep conviction that jewelry can be more than decoration.
The Beginning – Brazil, 2001
It all started in Brazil. Not with a business plan, not with market analysis – but with a feeling. Anyone who has been to Brazil knows how vibrant the accessory culture is there. Colorful, handmade, with history and meaning.
Escapulario brought this fascination to Germany. Not as a souvenir, but as an idea. As a question: Why isn't there something like this here, with this quality, this variety, this craftsmanship? The answer to that became our story.
Why the name Escapulario?
The word Escapulario – or scapular in English – originally refers to a religious neck ornament worn in many Latin American cultures as a protective amulet. It stands for belonging, for protection, for something worn close to the body that holds meaning.
This thought has guided us from the very beginning. Jewelry is not just jewelry. It is an expression of who you are. It reminds you of places, people, moments. You wear it consciously. You choose it carefully. That's what's in the name. That's in every piece we make.
Wooden Beads – a material with a soul
The decision to use wooden beads was not purely aesthetic. Of course, they are beautiful – their warm texture, the way they absorb and reflect colors, their natural weight. But wooden beads are also sustainable. They come from renewable resources. They age beautifully. We produce our wooden bead jewelry in Brazil – a country with a deep tradition of craftsmanship and true expertise in this area. At the same time, we develop and refine many of our designs in Germany, in our showroom in Nuremberg. The best of both worlds.
